L’îlot Art Déko
Salon-de-Provence
Prix Coup de Cœur COTE Magazine
The Art Deco Block, designed by architect Jacques Patingre, brings together an array of qualities that make it a unique project. Located in the heart of Salon-de-Provence, it revitalizes the neighborhood by introducing diverse housing options while preserving the local historical and architectural heritage. This approach respects the need to renew the urban fabric. Blending modernity with Art Deco heritage, the project features six residential buildings, each with its own identity, and the renovation of a historic villa, carefully restored to its original style. The architecture highlights Art Deco’s timeless appeal, combining its geometric lines with contemporary requirements for comfort and sustainability. One standout is the Villa Gatsby. Built with eco-friendly, bio-sourced materials, it embodies the project’s strong commitment to sustainability. The villa’s energy performance exceeds current standards by 1.7 times, setting a new benchmark for eco-friendly construction. This achievement was made possible through close collaboration with local artisans and suppliers, reinforcing the architect’s intent to root the project in its region. By awarding the Art Deco Block, which has already received recognition at the 2024 Innovative Housing Awards in the «Urban Renewal» category and the jury’s special prize, we aim to highlight a comprehensive and ambitious approach. The project harmoniously integrates architecture, history, urban planning, environmental responsibility, and local engagement.
Jury’s Opinion
While some politicians hope to achieve the elusive «at the same time,» this project in Salon-de-Provence has succeeded. Revitalizing a city center, working locally with bio-sourced materials, both building and renovating, and ultimately delivering a project with a remarkable style. It’s a beautiful synergy between an architect, public authorities, contractors, and artisans.
