Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin
Written in the stars
The child Rodrigo loved music: at 8 he played the piano, and at 10 he joined the conservatory in Paudua, Italy, then the Budapest Conservatory, where he became a concert pianist. A man of many talents, Rodrigo obtained a civil engineering degree and a diploma from the Franz Liszt Music Conservatory the same year. Such eclecticism naturally attracted the attention of his great-uncle Pierre Cardin, whom he met at the age of 24. A revelation for the ‘man of 1001 licences’In any case, Cardin began to follow the career of his niece’s son and brought him to Venice. At his mentor’s suggestion, Rodrigo learned to speak French, which would be important to his future. As a concert pianist, the young man won several prestigious prizes at international competitions while also becoming an architect-designer. Rodrigo excels particularly in the design of inventive objects and accessories, and has thus continued the Sculptures utilitaires collection begun by his great-uncle in the 1970’s. On 30 October 2018, Ricardo was appointed managing director of Pierre Cardin Evolution, and two years later CEO of the company. On the unlikely date of 29 December 2020, Pierre Cardin passed away, Rodrigo turned 50, and the reins of the great establishment were placed in his hands. One might say the entire story was written in the stars… like that of the Lacoste Festival, which this year is proposing a ‘dance with the stars’in the company of astrophysician David Elbaz.
