Generosity, sharing, transmission and talent are the words that spring to mind in connection with Camille Rebuffel. The young artist regrets not having been initiated into art as a child. “Now, I try to bring art into every detail of daily life, so that it belongs to everyone, whoever they are and wherever they come from.” Her art and her thinking on the subject always start from otherness. “Start from the others and come back to oneself, integrate people who haven’t had the good fortune to be introduced to art. I come from a poor rural family, and I have always wanted to represent people on the fringes. I wanted to be a fringe artist and proud of it.” Since she graduated from art school in Aix-en-Provence, “creating differently” has been her credo, driving all her collaborative projects. Like her partnership with the Musée des Alpilles in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence to create a multi-generation pressed flower collection involving a nursery school, a retirement home and a youth centre. She also has a project with the non-profit La Source Garouste-Sainte-Victoire for this year’s Aix Biennial. All her work is on the border between art and social life, involving a mix of disciplines and spheres of action. ”Today more than ever, I want to take part in culture and bring the wonderful world of creativity within reach of ever more people. Art is also about coming together to think about our humanity.”
