Baligh Ferjani. The sunny man in the shadows

Presenting Baligh Ferjani, the affable man in the background, who handles the daily affairs of La Sélection, Marseille’s popular concept-store. Unlike his alter ego Sophie Ferjani, famous interior director on France’s M6 television station, Baligh prefers a quiet life. Yet ever since they met in a high school near Blois, France, each has worked hard to impress the other. The couple settled in Paris, but one fine day decided to pull up stakes and head for Marseille. Together they dreamed up the now-famous shop, imagining the practical workshops, consulting services and expertise that La Sélection now provides. Their shop delivers decoration that feels good, that combines the craft and design worlds in an amazing dynamic of sharing: “no famous designers, but careful attention to niche products, furniture, dishes, household linens and other discoveries, for all budgets.” While Sophie is on location in Paris, the former marketing director heads up the management team and handles logistics, employees, stock, and a changing scenography: 273 m2, 240 suppliers, and new shop windows every three weeks. There is never a dull moment at La Selection. Baligh considers himself a “minor” contributor to this human adventure, a man who would be “nothing without her…”. On Sundays, this shy do-it-yourself handy man relaxes with his tribe. For him it’s a welcome return to earthy values, far from the tumult of social networks. Baligh protects the ones he loves…
