“Techtura will take us to the moon,” says Aurore Garrone with a smile. It’s clearly a joke, but perfectly captures the manager’s enthusiasm for her company, which specialises in waterproof roofing and asbestos removal: “The way ahead is clear, and we know that we can do some amazing things together.” Admittedly, after a reshuffle and a move – its site is now arranged using a colour code – Techtura’s revenue rose from 2.3 million euros in 2018 to 6.6 million in 2022. “I joined the company ten years ago. It was founded by my great-grandfather, then passed on to my grandfather and then my father, to whom I feel very close. One day, he asked me if I wanted to take on the business myself. At the time, I was working in CSR for a design office in Sophia-Antipolis, but as the firm had been in my family since I was little, it seemed a natural decision to agree. To gain experience, I worked in many positions, from switchboard operator to assistant works manager. My people taught me everything, and I owe them a lot. I must say that I am incredibly lucky.”

A keen learner and open conversationalist, Aurore Garrone focuses on both the value of hard graft and the well-being of the employees in her company. “I started working very early myself. I must have been thirteen when I got my first job, to start earning pocket money. I made bouquets of flowers or gift packages at Christmas so I could pay to go somewhere or get the latest Buffalo shoes. My parents were very loving and made sure that we had everything we needed, but they didn’t spoil us with anything extra,” says the manager. While the professions at Techtura require technical skills, safety is also essential. There are many elements to manage, including height and asbestos risks, and employees operate in a double-layered suit and a mask with assisted ventilation.

That is why it is so important to relax and unwind during the sophrology sessions we run, or to get together for a drink after work. “We have an osteopath who comes in, because people often forget to take care of themselves, so we offer sessions here at the company. I believe that people should feel happy and relaxed at work, and I think everyone is comfortable here. We have a low staff turnover.”

“We can take care of all kinds of roofs whether flat or sloping. We often work for building councils, local councils and large companies around the region,” explains Aurore Garrone. Her team also provides asbestos removal services. We now know that this is a toxic material, but it was widely used during the 1990s to insulate roofs, to lag pipes, to make planters and in glue for tiles and linoleum. Techtura has created a quick-response service for tiles that have slipped off in the rain, broken staircases and can even build furniture.
