Florian Valsot
Padel mania
Player, coach and selector for the Monegasque Padel Federation, Florian Valsot heads up V Indomitus Padel, Nice’s first dedicated indoor facility. A keen sportsman in his forties, he has devoted his life to racket sports, starting in tennis. He succumbed to padel mania and rapidly rose to the French Top 15 after spending many years tirelessly nurturing up-and-coming tennis talent. “I discovered the discipline in 2018 through Michel Laborie and Philippe Sassier, great padel pioneers in France, and haven’t put the racket down since. It’s a fabulous sport—accessible, fun, and festive! We meet up before the game for a chat over coffee and usually stay afterwards for a drink and tapas. Everyone has a great time!” he insists. Originating in Mexico and popularised in Europe during the COVID-19 pandemic (because you can play it outdoors), padel has attracted a growing number of French players (up 80% between January 2022 and February 2023). The sport has a federation in Monaco, but the Principality lacks the space to provide courts for players. ‘’I set up V Indomitus Padel to address this need too,’’ admits Florian Valsot. The state-of-the-art facilities at La Trinité, spanning over 1,500 m², include 2 World Padel Tour-certified courts, a singles court and a 150 m² clubhouse with a restaurant and business area. Family, friends, beginners and experienced players rub shoulders with the sport’s rising stars, among them Tyrone Pottier, French No.1 in the 11-year-old age group, Keny Vagliani Falentin, French No.1 in the 12-year-old age group, and a host of other top 100 players from around the world.
