Gatsby à Nice

Reality surpasses fiction

The amazing immersive Gatsby le Magnifique experience is back at the Hyatt Regency, Palais de la Méditerranée, until 30 August. It’s a blend of theatre, role play and live entertainment themed on the Great Gatsby and the Roaring Twenties.

Sculpteurs de Rêves (pioneers of immersive theatre in France) and the La Crème agency created the first Gatsby experience in Nice in 2023. They have partnered up again to bring the characters of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel to Nice and invite us to join them for some sumptuous soirées in a place that perfectly symbolises the lavish luxury of the Twenties. It’s 1929 and the story begins with an invitation to the opening of the Palais de la Méditerranée by its creator, the American millionaire Franck Jay Gould. He has also invited the Great Gatsby. All that’s left of the original Palais is its impressive Art Deco frontage (a listed monument), but the event takes place in an early 20th-century decor. Just for one night, you are a member of the period’s high society, hanging out with the characters from the novel (Jay, Daisy, Tom, Nick Carraway etc.) and historic celebrities of the time such as Mistinguett and Paul Carbone. Mingling with the 18 actors, each ticket holder plays the part of an illustrious guest such as Josephine Baker, Hemingway or Jean Cocteau, and can play an active part in the narrative as it unfolds. The experience is full of surprises: gunshots, jealous outbursts, intrigues and whisperings, etc. Whether or not you decide to play and active part, you’ll be immersed in an elegantly offbeat world with ragtime jazz, Prohibition cocktails and the Charleston. 1920s dress isn’t essential but it will help you enter into the spirit of those legendary times.
