Starry skies

 douce nuit

It's as if you were sleeping out under the stars, but protected by a transparent shell. It's an amusing idea. Unusual, enriching. The actual experience is even better.

Be not deceived: Edwige's photos were taken by day but there's no point arriving before 3pm hoping for a wee siesta or a quiet read behind closed shutters. And you won't have access to all the gadgets and amenities in the rest of the establishment. Your bubble is just for the night. It's best to arrive in the late afternoon and appreciate at leisure the fading of the light as the heat of the day cools and the sky darkens. Be ready to fill your eyes with the quiet spectacle of nature by night. Attrap’Rêves will even lend you a telescope for close-up stargazing. Everything is designed for making the most of the experience – without having to fight off mosquitoes or other insects. Which is the whole idea!

Bubble story
It all began at a family reunion in 2008, when the question arose of what to do with a hectare and a half of terraced land in the commune of Allauch that the parents had bought 12 years earlier. Then, at the Saint Tropez "outdoors" trade fair, someone spotted a bubble designed as a veranda for private homes. Brainwave! "Why not turn it into a guest bubble?" The entire Giovansili family set to with a will. Son Bruno, fresh out of catering school; daughters Murielle, Margot and Déborah; Dad in the building trade, and Mum, a born decorator: all the ingredients were there to create the concept. They started up five years ago and are already developing a franchise, with 18 Bulles (bubbles) on five sites: Allauch and La Bouilladisse in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Puget-Ville in the Var, Mantagnac in the Verdon regional park and Forcalquier in the Luberon national park. The Allauch estate, which also boasts three guest cabins run by the parents, stays open until the end of November, so you can make the most of autumn's glorious colours.

One night, telescope and breakfast €139 (high season). Extras include whirlpool tub, massages and meals on a tray.
