At the Milan furniture fair this month, Roche Bobois is showing the Odéa armchair, an elegantly proportioned take on an evocative organic shape its designers, Roberto Tapinassi and Maurizio Manzoni, describe as “inspired by the petals of a tulip so as to deliver sophisticated comfort through a generously sized seat that seems almost suspended above the floor”. While awaiting its arrival you can check out a little gem by Studio Désormeaux/Carrette; for their first collaboration with Roche Bobois, the two French designers have come up with Rocket, a resin stool shaped like a giant salt cellar complete with holes that additionally make it easy to move around. Offbeat and practical, it sums up the pair’s philosophy of teaming the rigour of industrial design with artistic inspiration.
