Monti has something to say
Ultra-hip streetwear
Clara Montigiani was a member of the first class to graduate from the Ecole de Condé before she headed off to Chelsea College of Art and Design where she learnt to upgrade textiles. “I source second-hand clothes on the internet or in shops. It’s a lot of hard work to find high-quality original pieces. Last time, I bought a batch of 90s Nascar T-shirts from a wholesaler,” Clara enthuses. Having worked in a trend bureau and always been very attentive to fashion, she designs stylish collections in her workshop in Nice. Sewing, embroidery, flocking strong messages, everything is done locally in these streetwear pieces with their often oversized easy-to-wear shapes.

Studio Clandestin
Art and material
Jonathan Canuti grew up in the South of France and made fashion his art. His brand has a strong identity. He learnt the basics of “factory” fashion when he worked as a visual manager for a top ready-to-wear brand, codes that he is now trying to deconstruct. The Studio Clandestin laboratory offers clients the opportunity to create a unique piece from, for example, an old garment in their wardrobe. Here, paying tribute to Yves “Clin” and dressing up clothes with Vallauris ceramics. An original way to express your vision of the world.

The Rainbow Revival
Such fun inflatables
Heather was looking for a creative and environmentally friendly idea. She came up with repurposing swimming pool inflatables into bags and accessories. “As we’re by the sea, there are hundreds of broken and abandoned ones,” enthuses this committed Englishwoman, who worked in the charity and marketing sector before arriving on the Riviera six years ago. In her small Antibes workshop, she puts the soul back into them the artisan way, playing with patterns and colours or adding zips here and there to make bags, travel pouches, make-up bags, and small purses. Heather is also currently in discussions with a major brand to use their unsold designs. She concludes,
“I get a lot of positive feedback because the bags are good quality and last a long time. When it comes to upcycling, it’s important to have sustainable ideas.” A small plus is that the brand donates 5% of its profits to Sea Shepherd for marine protection.

Rock’n’roll
Self-taught and highly creative, Zouzou breathes new life into army officer clothing, as well as the apparel she meticulously hunts down. Gradually, her style has become sharper, as have her brand values: “I aim to avoid over-consumption through eco-design. I like to enhance a piece with materials that have a life of their own.” Those won over include Rebecca Hampton, actress in the series Plus Belle La Vie, alongside fashion aficionados in Russia, Japan, Australia, Germany, and Norway. Zouzou does not limit herself to one product. She also customises jeans, shorts, shirts, waistcoats, and even ties in a noble rock’n’roll spirit. Enough to “dare to be different.”
