From the forest to the tablet
The story begins far from Marseille, in a tropical forest in northwestern Madagascar. On the LEOKOA plantation, more than 8,000 cacao trees grow under the forest canopy, in the heart of a preserved ecosystem. Here, there is no intensive monoculture: cacao coexists with vanilla, coffee, and mango trees, in an agroforestry system that respects all living things.
This complete mastery, from tree to tablet, defines the model tree to bar from Terrakoa. A short, traceable supply chain, where each step (fermentation, drying, roasting, conching) is designed to reveal the original taste of cocoa, without artifice or additives.
Marseille, artisanal evidence
The magic happens at 120 rue Sainte. In this open-air factory, chocolate is made right before visitors' eyes. You can watch the beans transform into paste, then into a bar, in a completely artisanal process. This choice makes perfect sense in a port city like Marseille, historically oriented towards trade.
But Terrakoa is more than just a workshop: it's a true living space. Café, boutique, laboratory… people stop by to enjoy an intense hot chocolate, a homemade brownie, or a single-origin chocolate bar with fruity and floral notes. Behind the taste lies a deeply ethical project. In Madagascar, producers are paid well above local standards, benefit from stable working conditions, and participate in a sustainable economy. Forest preservation, biodiversity, low-carbon transport: every step is designed with overall coherence in mind.
