It’s good news for all gourmets and epicureans, who will see it as a new place for sharing, meeting, and culinary curiosities. An authentic place to live, covering a 2,000m2 area divided into two sectors linked by a vast terrace. Created by the people of Marseilles for the people of Marseilles and the Mediterranean city’s many visitors and will be inaugurated in May.
It began with confinement, which raised questions and hit hard. Laurent Battisti, an entrepreneur in the brasserie and restaurant business for more than 20 years, and Julien Fabre, director of the Sunmade communication agency, shared the same vision of the Mediterranean art of living and set their sights on a joint project that resembled them. The appeal of good food and the accompanying conviviality swirled around in their heads until the idea of creating gourmet food halls in Marseille fell into place.
On either side of the Cours d’Estienne d’Orves, two venues were waiting to spring into life, the former Buffalo Grill and the Maison de l’Artisanat. Once they had found the setting, the monumental works began. The first sector will house the Food Hall, bringing together some 15 or so stalls. Each counter will offer a real voyage of the senses, to eat in or take away, with cuisine from Marseille, Lebanon, Spain, Italy, and Israel. The second sector, connected by a canopy with 400 seats installed beneath it, will house a local produce market. Filling your basket will be the first step towards a guaranteed feast!
