Luma Arles. Tomorrow now
The magnificent Luma tower, designed by Frank Gehry, is now open. The gardens are well under way, with 140 Mediterranean trees and shrubs around the old railway workshops and forge, while a pond brings a cool touch to the site.

Seeing
This strange third-millennium tower houses the permanent exhibition: the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation’s collection of avant-garde Western art (Cy Twombly, Bruce Nauman and Richard Long etc.) and the Maja Hoffman collection (Etel Adnan, Diane Arbus, Arte Povera works by Alighiero Boetti, etc.).
Exploring
Ici la nouveauté, la diversité nous attendent, nous sommes dans un complexe culturel où philosophie, science et prospective s’acoquinent à l’art. C’est bien l’étonnante originalité du lieu qui change notre regard sur le monde. Ecouter Edouard Glissant, champion de la notion de « mondialité », lire sa poésie ; plus loin, adorer Life after BOB (bag of beliefs), une narration animée et interactive de Ian Cheng aux Forges ; s’immerger dans Liminal Lands, la pièce de Jakob Kudsk Steensen (Prélude à la Mécanique Générale) qui nous entraîne dans un monde bien étrange. N’oublions pas l’incroyable installation de Pierre Huyghe à la Grande Halle, After Uumwelt, qu’il est souhaitable de découvrir avec un médiateur. Fascinant.
A vivre
Luma Arles boasts hotel accommodation, a restaurant and several delightful cafeterias in the shade. It’s worth taking plenty of time for your visit. You have to book online but it’s all free, a whole new world of ideas and imagination.
