A licence to have no licence!

A solution for urban traffic

These “unlicensed” cars are enjoying a roaring success! They have been able to attract a new clientele and earn their place in an increasingly constrained town traffic.

Once upon a time considered the only motorized travel solution for social outcasts who had lost all 12 points on their driving licence, the license-free car is now enjoying its heyday with a market that is growing by 50% per year. It is easy and economical to maintain, its small size allows it to park in the tightest of spots and its minimum consumption generates a very low mileage cost.  Its design has won over an increasingly diverse clientele, including many teenagers (despite an average purchase price of around 13 000 € and a tense second-hand market, many parents prefer this solution to the tube or scooter.) It is maneuverable and sneaks with ease through narrow or congested streets. Airbags and disc brakes improve its safety and comfort. Its automatic transmissions make driving easy and intuitive. And the double exhaust outlets, alloy wheels or roof spoiler lend GTI fragrances to the design of sporty versions.

The diversity of the models on offer is vast.  You can choose from the Aixam City (the European lead manufacturer based in Aix-les-Bains) to Bélier’s B8 with its cabriolet curves, from the Ligier JS50 and JS60 to Chatenet’s top-of-the-range CH26, from the Microcar M.GO Family with the allure of an SUV to the “Italian” models of the Tarrazzi Zero junior or the Casalini M20 Superleggera –,  from Citroën’s AMI version to that of Renault’s Twizy.
