Only a few days left to attend this sublime exhibition! Through more than 150 exceptional prints, the Villa Tamaris is showcasing the work of Marc Riboud, the immense travel photographer whose vision has left its mark on the history of photojournalism. Entitled The Eye of the Traveler, the exhibition, on loan from the Guimet Museum, brings together emblematic images captured during his numerous journeys in Asia since the 1950s – Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, India, Japan, and of course China, which he photographed several times, from the years of the Great Leap Forward until the beginning of the XNUMXst century. His photographs bear witness as much to the political and social upheavals of his time as to a more contemplative research: the temples of Angkor, the snowy landscapes of Alaska, or the yellow mountains of Huang Shan, dear to Chinese painters, mingle with images of independence in Algeria and Africa, or even his reports from Vietnam. This journey through half a century of perspectives is enriched by the presence of photographer Caroline Abitbol, invited to present her long-term work in India. A way of extending the spirit of transmission dear to Riboud, who has constantly supported young artists. A sensitive dive into the world through the lens of a humanist, whose art has successfully combined testimony and poetry.
