What a programme! Just imagine: a new decor enhancing the Riviera feel but retaining the Art Deco identity, a restructuring and expansion of the food and beverage areas, plus a new positioning within the Hyatt Hotels chain that owns it, now including the Martinez in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, a selection of high-end luxury hotels with fascinating pasts. This change is symbolised by the hotel reverting to its original name of Hôtel Martinez. But most important of all is how interior architect Pierre-Yves Rochon, in charge of the project, has focused on reconnecting the hotel with its seafront setting. The result is enhanced spaces and volumes that let in more light plus decoration channelling Jazz Age, Fifties Miami and yachting and playing on materials and seaside colours. No half measures in the restructuring either. The bar has moved and is replaced by the Version Originale restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and functions as a tearoom in between times.
Outside, the swimming pool has gone and in its place is a new restaurant, Le Jardin du Martinez, in a delightful garden setting like a Provençal village square looking onto the Croisette. Here you can enjoy cocktails and delicious simple food such as pizzas, grilled squid, revisited tajines, steaks and suchlike. On Fridays nights this terrace turns into a guinguette with jazz and swing bands playing for barbecue dinners.
