Ambling around with no set plan you're likely to come across some absolute gems. In Rue du Jour, for example, where young French designer Alexandre Milan has a boutique for his Mont Saint Michel label. He started out with the family textile firm (he's the fourth generation!) before relaunching the venerable Mont Saint Michel label. It's now the talk of the town with its vintage-inspired knits and of-the-moment looks made in Brittany. Another knitwear adept is Marie Sixtine, a few yards further on. This brand, a 2010 startup, combines bohemian chic with precious materials and adds a sparkle to its most classic items with silk or lurex trim. But let's not forget the great classics. This narrow street is also the favourite haunt of the celebrated Agnès b. This is where she opened her very first women's fashion boutique, then her menswear store, which is still here, and her Galerie du Jour, which has since moved to Rue Quincampoix near the Pompidou centre.
