Alberto Giacometti – Sculpting the void at the Cantini Museum

For the very first time, the work of Alberto Giacometti is being honored in Marseille. Through a major monographic exhibition co-organized with the Giacometti Foundation at the Cantini Museum, several works by the painter-sculptor will be exhibited in the Mediterranean city. A sculptor of emptiness, a thinker of space, the artist has fashioned stretched bodies, fragile faces, and barely visible presences. For him, absence becomes matter, silence becomes form. A way of representing the human in all its solitude, mystery, and beauty. The ephemeral exhibition traces the major periods of his career: surrealist sculptures, dreamlike visions, post-war research into the human figure… A dense journey, between plaster casts, bronzes, drawings, and rare archives. The exhibition also dialogues with that of Ali Cherri, a contemporary artist invited to extend Giacometti's reflections on the human face, to be discovered directly at the museum.
