In spring, the Marseille Photographic Center dedicates an exhibition to Anna Leonte Loronwhose work authentically explores feminine representations related to food. Presented from March 6 to 21, 2026, The women are hungry questions a gesture that is as everyday as it is symbolically charged: eating.
While eating spontaneously evokes pleasure and sharing, for many women it remains fraught with unspoken expectations. Caught between restraint and cultural legacies, women's appetites have long been suppressed, even rendered invisible. Popular images have contributed to this distancing: women behind the stove, women serving, but rarely women at the table, enjoying themselves.
Anna Leonte Loron's project overturns this narrative. Through a series of photographs, videos, and an installation, she portrays women eating freely, without justification or performance. The gestures are ordinary—biting, savoring, finishing their plates—but here they become statements. The artist advocates for a representation where the woman is no longer observed eating, but fully exists in her pleasure.
The exhibition creates a space where appetite becomes a subject, and no longer a taboo.
