In Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, the Prieuré Baumanière, a 5-star Relais & Châteaux hotel nestled a few minutes from Avignon, now offers a lunch around the brazier, created by the starred chef Christophe Chiavola.
Arriving in May 2023, Chef Chiavola quickly regained the restaurant's Michelin star, which was restored in 2024. For lunch, he sets aside the formality of a gastronomic dinner in favor of a more straightforward approach, centered around flame-grilled dishes. Octopus fresh from the fish market, veal chop, Camargue black bull rib—the ingredients are authentic, seared over embers, and meant to be shared on the terrace beneath the vines. The side dishes follow the same sun-drenched philosophy: asparagus, traditional mashed potatoes, and sucrine lettuce with anchovies and Espelette pepper.
The bill remains affordable for the bucolic and timeless setting offered by the establishment: starters from €22, main courses from €32, desserts from €15.
Here, the brazier is not just a cooking utensil, it structures the service, brings the guests together and sets the tone: generous, summery, without frills, but never without demands.
