With her bowl cut and glasses, which she designed herself, her look is already a signature. An industrial designer by training, Matali Crasset creates life scenarios that break with convention by rethinking objects and spaces. Examples include her "When Jim Goes Up to Paris Bed," equipped with a lamp and an alarm clock, or her "Digestion Pouf," designed from a housewife's shopping bag. Nathalie, known as Matali,'s creations have been presented from the Centre Pompidou in Paris to the MoMA in New York. In the south of France, her name is associated with the development of youth outreach spaces at the MuCEM in Marseille and architectural projects in Nice such as the Hi Hotel and the Sledge House. And it is in Monaco that she unveils, for the launch of The Cultural Gallery—a small gem nestled in Monaco's former arts and crafts district—nine ceramic vases topped with their capes. Objects conceived as a method, to be discovered on site until June 30. Rather than starting with a drawing aiming for beauty, she wandered through the vast library of forms that is the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres. The vases that seemed the most anthropomorphic to her, she combined with others, so that the second came to adorn the first. The repeated operation gave birth to a parade of colorful silhouettes which, after Monaco, will be honored at the Manufacture.
