From July 1st to 12th, Marseille once again becomes the capital of jazz. For this new edition, the festival takes over the Vieille Charité, the Pierre Barbizet Conservatory, the Friche la Belle de Mai, and a brand new venue, the Parc Henri Fabre. The program features a skillful blend of legends, contemporary figures, and emerging talents, all guided by the three pillars of this edition: authenticity, audacity, and energy.
The festival will kick off with a tribute to Miles Davis featuring Sketches of Spain , performed by trumpeter Michael Leonhart and flamenco dancer Israel Galván. Twelve days later, the festival will close with an equally memorable evening, bringing together Marcus Miller and several legendary musicians who accompanied Miles Davis in the 80s. Between these two highlights, the program offers a diverse range of musical styles: soul with José James and China Moses in a tribute to Marvin Gaye, warm Afrobeat with the British group Ezra Collective, cosmic jazz with the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra, and fiery salsa with Colombian trumpeter Maité Hontelé.
The new scene is not forgotten, with Kassa Overall and their electric hip-hop jazz, the sunny voice of Awa Ly, or the Marseille pianist Cyril Benhamou and his trio HOT. DJ Gilles Peterson will set up his turntables on the rooftop terrace of La Friche, while Parc Henri Fabre will host several open-air parties until the closing on Sunday, July 12.
