From stage to canvas at the Museum of Fine Arts in Nice

To rediscover the excitement of Carnival, portraits of famous composers, opera singers, and foreign princesses, head to the Musée Chéret in Nice. This exhibition brings together the protagonists of the Belle Époque (1871-1914), a central period for its collections. On canvas, the subjects appear in theatrical costumes, disguises, or festive attire. The paintings offer a timeless setting for these ceremonial outfits and bear witness to the rise of dressmaking, the precursor to ready-to-wear, in the second half of the 19th century.
